Where am I about to enter? What is preventing me from crossing my next threshold? What gift would enable me to do it?…At this threshold a great complexity of emotions comes alive: confusion, fear, excitement, sadness, hope. This is one of the reasons such vital crossings were always clothed in ritual.”

Throughout human history, ritual has served as a tool of transformation that supports us moving through transitional experiences. Gallup data from 2020 shows that only 45% of Americans belong to a formal religious institution. So, when these milestone moments - births, weddings, big birthdays, retirement, moments of overcoming illness, and end of life - come up, many of us don’t have a spiritual leader towards whom to turn.
